On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the first concert by the Silesian Philharmonic, we invite you to an extraordinary spectacle – the Grand Jubilee Gala at the Spodek Arena in Katowice.
At 6:00 PM, we invite you to a performance by the Silesian Chamber Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic, presenting works by Wojciech Kilar enhanced with industrial sounds and multimedia displays. You will hear some of his most famous film themes, including pieces from Pan Tadeusz, The Promised Land, The Leper, The Portrait of a Lady, The Shadow Line, and The Salt of the Black Earth. The energetic Orawa, inspired by folk music—featuring highland rhythms and dances from the Podhale region—will also resonate. The remarkable music of this world-renowned composer, closely tied to our region, Katowice, and the Silesian Philharmonic, will combine with modern technologies to create an unforgettable artistic experience.
The highlight of the evening will be a performance by the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Yaroslav Shemet. Joined by the Silesian Philharmonic Choir and combined choirs from the Silesian region, they will present Symphony No. VIII in E-flat major by Gustav Mahler. For the first time in Poland, this masterpiece will be performed by 1,000 artists!
Join us in celebrating the 80th birthday of the Silesian Philharmonic!
